Life in the kids' tenth month has been...routine. Weird to say that but July has been all about routine. Get up, wash and fill bottles, warm bottles, eat breakfast, read the paper, dress, wake the kids up, change diapers, dress the kids, feed the kids, Mike goes to work, kids play, nap at 9, clean up and do laundry, wash bottles, relax, kids up at 1030, feed the kids baby food, play, prepare bottles, nanny comes, feed the kids, play until 1, kids nap, do laundry prepare bottles, kids get up, feed the kids, Mike gets home, kids go for a walk, prepare dinner and kids' food, feed kids, mom and dad eat, play with kids, change diapers, warm bottles, dress kids, feed kids, kids go to bed, mom and dad clean up, do chores, relax and BED.
We think this is pretty typical of any new parents. But the routine gets you by but also locks you in, and once you're locked in sometimes you need a change. So we've been doing a bit of traveling. Muscatine, Iowa City, driving around Burlington, is enough of a change of pace to reset the routine.
So what about the kids? Everyone is doing great. The kids were weighed at their nine month standard checkup in Burlington, and Max was 24; Livvy 17 and August 18. Everyone is on the growth chart and normal, and that was all we hoped for.
We are starting to see a lot of interaction among the kids. In the stroller Max, in his middle position, likes to poke and prod his smaller siblings. And they reciprocate. They also like to take toys from one another, and scratch each other's faces.
Everyone can stand supported now, like if they lean up against the couch or a chair. And we've found a new snack: prawn sticks from the asian food store...only as a treat!
We can hardly believe we are where we are, nearly 10 months after a lot of time in the hospital and experiencing how tiny our kids were.
